There was no failure to launch Matthew McConaughey's son Levi's new Instagram account.
After he and wife Camila Alves McConaughey revealed in July that their 15-year-old would be joining social media, the Dallas Buyers Club actor shared insight into what led them to grant their eldest permission to post.
"We thought he was ready," the Oscar winner told People in an interview published Sept. 7. "After two to three years of talking about the pitfalls and the upfalls and the downfalls, and him shadowing me on my IGs and his mother on hers and picking out people that he looked up to and talking to them about it, we felt he's got enough information and is mature enough to tell his own story."
And while Matthew previously admitted that Camila was nervous about Levi joining Instagram, the 53-year-old expressed his confidence in the teen's ability to navigate the space.
"He's a very considerate and cool young man," he added. "I hope that the world out there can reciprocate and treat him the same as he treats them."
This echoes the message Matthew—who also shares daughter Vida, 13, and son Livingston, 10, with Camila—first shared in his announcement about Levi joining Instagram.
"He knows who he is, and he knows where he's going. I think he can handle it," the How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days star said in a July 7 video. "He's got a great story to tell and share. I wanna let all y'all know you're getting a very cool and respectful young man in Levi McConaughey comin' atcha. And I hope y'all can do your best to treat him the same way. Levi, enjoy the adventure. Enjoy sharing your story, expressing yourself and what you put out there and the exchange you get with people out there."
And it looks like Levi is doing just that. As he wrote in his very first post in July, "happy to be here."
